Also known as Chinese Nettle, Ramie is one of the oldest textile fibers in existence, historically used by the Egyptians to create cloth for wrapping their deceased. With a silk-like appearance, Ramie is renowned for its strength, soft feel, and long staple length. Similar to flax but with added luster, it can be spun just like flax. Ramie is highly resistant to mildew and rot, making it exceptionally durable. Additionally, it is very absorbent and offers excellent breathability, making it a versatile choice for a variety of textile applications.
Bast fiber is a type of natural fiber derived from the inner bark, or phloem, of certain plants. These fibers are strong, durable, and often used in the production of textiles, ropes, and other materials. They are typically extracted through a process called retting, which involves soaking the plant stems to separate the fibers from the woody core and outer bark. Once separated, the fibers are cleaned, spun, and woven into various products.
All my fiber comes from a smoke-free, pet-free environment.
I do my best to get pictures from different angles to capture and show the beauty of the color combinations. Remember that your monitor may show colors differently than mine. I'm always open to questions. The lighting for the photos makes the colors a little brighter than they do in person, so expect the colors one or two shades darker.
